| The
purpose of the War on Drugs isn't quite clear anymore since it does
nothing to prevent drug use/abuse, misuse, or dependency. Among it's
numerous "side effects", the the drug war has been a deterrent
to civil rights. Ironically, while the Civil War freed the slaves,
the drug war incarcerates members of the black community. It is an
unjust relic which slowly pushes racism forward. The War on
Terrorism, introduced by George W. Bush following 9/11, added yet another
layer of discrimination to the drug war. It is truly pitiful
that the African-American has been challenged by so many
"wars". In 2008, the War on Terrorism incarcerated
thousands of black men that had nothing to do with any terrorist
organization, yet the War on Terrorism has not incarcerated one terrorist,
proving once again that the war on drugs and the war on terror are merely
a means to manipulate the African-Americans in our society.
Regardless what the Civil War and civil rights movements sought to
achieve, the African-American remains a target of our government nearly
150 years after the bloodiest war on US soil.
Some have viewed the drug war as the
American aristocracy's move to regain control over the black
communities. The longer that the drug war continues, the more it
seems that there is no other purpose of the drug war than to gain
control.
